Be On Time With Gift Giving Friday, Nov 21 2008

Doesn’t it make you feel great when someone sends you an anniversary card or a birthday card & maybe even a gift to boot? Well, other people will love it when you do the same in return and on time!

At the end of each month look at your calendar and see who has a special occasion coming up in the next month. Make a list of names and head to the store to buy all the cards at one time. If you want to buy personalized gifts this is the time to do it.

An easy idea is to pick up something simple like Starbuck’s gift cards to throw in the card for “coffee or treat on me” that you can easily add to the card and go.

It’s not about a fancy gift, it’s about thinking of someone and acknowledging their special day!

Gift Storage Monday, Nov 17 2008

What do you do with all those gifts you pick up on sale that you want to save to give to someone in the future?

1.  Designate a storage space.  At my house I have a very old dresser in the closet and I use 2 drawers for future gifts.  Any box, basket or bin will work as long as you have a specific place you store it so you don’t forget where they are!  The top shelf in a closet is a great place.

2.  Remember who they are for.  I just write the person’s name on a small piece of paper and tape it to the gift.  If it’s a generic gift to pull out for anyone or event that comes up, then no name necessary and you will know right where to go to find a little treat for someone.

3.  Make a note on your calendar.  If you are saving your gift for a specific person’s special occasion, just make a note on your calendar next to the entry that shows it is their birthday.  It could say:  Mary’s Birthday **Gift in basket.

You only save money buying a sale item ahead of time as long as you can find the gift!

Avoid Holiday Headaches Friday, Nov 14 2008

Now is the time to make your lists and check them twice! The best way to be prepared for the holidays is to think ahead. It’s never too soon to make decisions & lists for:

  • Recipes you would like to make and what ingredients you will need; purchase as much as you can ahead of time.
  • What you would like guests to bring to social gatherings.
  • What gifts you & your family are interested in so you are ready when asked.
  • Create a list of all the people you need to purchase gifts for and bring it with you every time you shop.

Creating lists now will help relieve your mind of feeling like you are going to forget something.  Keep lists in a place you won’t forget-you can do something as simple as grabbing a manilla folder and labeling it holiday lists or keep lists in a folder on your computer desktop.

Honor What You Keep Tuesday, Nov 11 2008

Do you honor your belongings? Do you love what you have in your home and know why it’s there? If you are keeping belongings just because you feel obligated to keep them or feel guilty about parting with them, then you are keeping them for the wrong reasons. If you have Grandma’s china collection in a box in the garage where no one can see or use it, then you aren’t honoring it. If you don’t have room to keep a set of 12 then display a plate, a cup and saucer and give the rest to another family member to enjoy. Bringing it in where you can see the china and enjoy it will honor it.

Our belongings should bring us joy and show others what we like and what is important to us. Display what you love and pass on the rest.
